Are you longing to show your friends and family the fruits of your labours? Well look no further! Here is your opportunity to show all your hard work to friends, family and fellow garden enthusiasts – Enter the Shropshire Virtual Show Open Gardens Competition and share your garden with the rest of Shropshire (and maybe way, way beyond!)
Have a walk around your garden, or a look through your window box (size is no object) and make sure no weeds have suddenly appeared overnight. Is your beautiful garden looking its best?
Take your camera/phone and go for a walk around your garden with the camera on “video” mode and remember one photograph at the end.
There are no specific classes, and only one rule. For the non- professional competition entries, your video can be no more than 2 minutes long as a maximum. Provide a commentary, or let the birds (dogs or children) be the backdrop.
Whether your garden is a window box, or a cottage garden, a courtyard, or an arboretum we want to see your videos, we want you to share your garden, and to invite your friends and family to see it.
We will judge the gardens (hence the use of the word competition!), BUT the main point is that this is a fantastic opportunity for you to share your personal gardening successes with other keen gardeners.
The best use of colour (plant/flower colour and texture combination).
The best use of space (overall impression/impact/wow factor/creativity).
The best use of context (best or favourite view – it could be from the kitchen window, a group of pots, a tree, or a distant view).
At the end of the video, we would like to judge a photograph of the best plant combination in your garden.
There is also a “People’s choice” category which voters will be directed to on the website.
For the professionals out there, we would also love for you to share your gardens and experience with us. We would like a cover photograph for each garden and a short paragraph contextualizing your experience and your garden. There is no time limit for your video clips and please educate and entertain us with information about your gardens as you give us the tour. Your videos will be shared but not judged.
Make a donation to the wonderful charities who are putting on this show and enter your garden. Once you fill out the entry form you will receive an email to upload your video and photo. This must be uploaded between 3rd July and 10th August. Photo/video in landscape.
The entries to our open gardens competition (except the people’s choice category) will be judged by a panel of professionals and the winners will be announced on the day of the show. There will be prizes to 3rd place.
